S.O.W. Ministries
SOW stands for strangers, orphans and widows and is the summertime
lunch program for families in need. It is an ecumenical program combining several churches in Laurel. LUMC serves every Wednesday. Last year we served 125 people each day. This program runs through the school summer vacation. It is all funded by donations from the community. We serve at one location on the east side of town. We need volunteers to prepare/cook food, haul the trailer, and serve food on site. If anyone is interested in planning the meals or buying the food (you are refunded) please see Linda Shelton. If anyone is interested in preparing the bags with non-perishable items the Tuesday night prior to serving please let Linda Shelton know. We are trying to give more opportunities to those who cannot help the day of serving. Our serving dates are: June 5th, 12th, 19th, &26th. July 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st. August 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th. If you'd like to help make or serve meals, please be in touch with the office at the number below. Additionally, food items that may be donated are individual packages of chips, granola bars, fruit chews, cookies, cheese & crackers, Rice Krispie squares, cereal bars and fruit roll-ups.
