On November 5, 1908 several people met at the home of D.W. Watsbaugh in Laurel to consider the organization of a Methodist congregation. It was decided to organize into a class and hold cottage prayer meetings each Wednesday evening. On November 9, 1908, Rev Chas D Crouch, district superintendent of Yellowstone District -Montana Conference visited the home of a local and gave a short sermon to some of the previous class members. After which, the First Methodist Episcopal Church North of Laurel was organized, with Rev. WM. H. Calvert (Park City) as Pastor. They went on to elect Trustee officers and record about 11 charter members. In December 1908, a tent Tabernacle was erected, land was purchased, the first sermon was preached, and a parsonage was built
